Upcoming Events

1) In January 2003, The Heather and Thistle Society raised a larger than life bust of Robert Burns in the International Commemorative Sculpture Garden at Hermann Park to commemorate Roberts Burns and to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of its Society.  The project was totally funded by donations from members and friends of the Society. No corporate donations were solicited nor accepted, making this a true gift from the Scottish Community to our city.

Our local Burns Club invites you to join them at 12:00 PM Monday, January 28, 2019, at the Rose Garden, Hermann Park for a service celebrating the 260th anniversary of Robert Burns’s birth. Following the brief ceremony, the group will repair for lunch to the Red Lion Pub, 2316 S Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77019  

2) February Membership Meeting on Wednesday, February 6th, 2019, at  Spaghetti Western 2, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The address is 1951 W TC Jester Blvd, Houston, TX 77008.

3) Houston Solo Piping contest on Saturday, February 9th, 2019, sponsored by the Houston Highland Games Association to be held at St. Thomas Episcopal School. This is a EUSPBA sanctioned event. Register via our website at: https://houstonhighlandgames.com/feb-9th-premier-piping-event-sign-in/

4) The Houston Highland Games will be Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Crown Festival Park in Sugar Land, Texas. This one day event will include athletics, clans, and vendors. April 2019 Highland Games announcement and January Membership Meeting

Greetings HHGA members and friends! We hope you had a very Happy Hogmanay.

The Houston Highland games is proud to present a Premiere Athletic Competition on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Crown Festival Park in Sugar Land, Texas. This one day event will include highland game heavy athletics, clans, and vendors. A more detailed schedule of events is pending. January Membership meeting is THIS WEDNESDAY, January 9, 2019, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Spaghetti Western 2 at 1951 W T C Jester Blvd, Houston, Texas 77008. We look forward to seeing you there!

Save the date, February 9th, 2019, for the Houston Solo Piping and Drumming contest sponsored by the Houston Highland Games Association to be held at St. Thomas Episcopal School. We’re planning an EUSPBA sanctioned event – entry form should be available soon. We’ll post them as soon as they are.

In preparation for our upcoming event in April, Ron Ammons, our VP site is requesting volunteers for our site coordination committeesThe following committees are under the VP Site.  Each committee is needed for us to have a successful event.

Grounds Committee – This committee shall be responsible for overseeing the preparation of the games site, including setup of tents, equipment, stages, dance platforms, public address systems, first aid, and restrooms.  The committee shall allocate space, and arrange for security, clean-up and such other services as may be necessary for the smooth operation of events on the day of the Games. (This committee is basically in force now, but we could use some others to help.  Main help will be needed during the weekend of the Games.)

Special Attractions Committee – This committee shall be responsible for arranging for groups and individuals to participate on the day of the Games.

Clans and Societies Committee – This committee shall be responsible for arranging for Clan and other Celtic Societies to participate on the day of the Games.

Vendors Committee – This committee shall be responsible for choosing commercial enterprises and food concessions to participate on the day of the Games.

Happy St. Andrew’s Day!

Greetings! Happy St. Andrew’s Day from HHGA!

Our St. Andrew’s Day picnic had to be re-located to Jaycee Park at 1300 Seamist Dr. Houston, TX 77008. Space is still available and we look forward to seeing you there tomorrow, Saturday, December 1st, at 10 am. Due to scheduling conflicts, our December membership meeting has been cancelled. We will notify you of our next meeting as soon as it’s scheduled.

Come join HHGA for a family friendly picnic to celebrate St. Andrew’s Day at Sugar Land Memorial Park in Sugar Land, Texas,  Jaycee Park in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, December 1st, 2018 from 10 AM to noon. St. Andrew is the patron saint of fishermen, singers, SCOTLAND, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, and Patras. We will have fried chicken and non-alcoholic drinks to share on a first come/first serve basis. Please bring your own sides, and enjoy a morning of family fun with fellow HHGA members and their friends at the park.
